Fakhrul, Khasru get bail in sabotage case

A court in Dhaka has granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed with the city’s Paltan Police Station on charge of sabotage.

Besides, the court granted bail to the party’s standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in two cases simultaneously.

Dhaka’s Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Huque passed the order on Wednesday granting bail to Mirza Fakhrul after a hearing on his bail plea.

Earlier on January 10, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin granted bail to Mirza Fakhrul in nine, out of 11 cases, filed with the city’s Ramna and Paltan police stations. At that same time, the court set January 10 for further hearing on his bail plea.

With Wednesday’s bail, Mirza Fakhrul was granted bail in 10, out of 11, cases filed over the clashes between police and BNP men and alleged attacks on different establishments, including the residence of the chief justice at Kakrail in the capital, around BNP’s October 28 grand rally at Nayapaltan.

Hearing on bail pleas of Khasru in 8 cases Thursday

Hearing on the pleas of showing arrested in eight cases filed on charges of political violence at the BNP’s grand rally in Dhaka on October 28 last against Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will be held on Thursday.

Dhaka’s additional chief metropolitan magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed an order on Wednesday when Khasru’s counsel submitted eight seperate prayers.

The magistrate will hold the bail hearings in presence of Khasru.

The magistrate also directed police to produce Amir Khasru at the court on Thursday in four cases filed with Ramna Police Station and in four cases filed with Paltan Police Station.

On January 14 last, Dhaka’s chief metropolitan magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury set Wednesday for hearing on Khasru’s bail pleas in eight seperate cases.

The cases were filed on charges of killing a police constable, holding unlawful rally on the road, vandalising vehicles, starting riots, snatching police’s arms, causing losses to property, humiliating policemen, and obstructing them to discharge their duties.
