Modernization of parking system is necessary to reduce traffic congestion: Mayor Rezaul

Chittagong City Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury commented that modernizing the parking system is necessary in addition to creating sufficient parking spaces to reduce traffic congestion.
He made this comment in a tripartite meeting between City corp., CMP and BRTA at CCC office near Tiger Pass on Thursday. At the meeting, BitTrack Solutions outlined the pilot project for introducing pay-parking in Agrabad, Chittagong.
Mayor Rezaul said that the number of cars in Chittagong is continuously increasing due to the Prime Minister taking several big projects around Chittagong. In order to free the future Chittagong from traffic jams, technical traffic management should be introduced.
Due to lack of parking space in the city, many people park their cars everywhere, causing traffic jams at some points of the city even though there are enough roads. To solve this problem, I have been trying to form public opinion in favor of pay-parking for a long time. If technology-based pay-parking is introduced based on the opinion of all the concerned institutions, the traffic congestion in the city will be reduced a lot. In the light of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s plan to build a smart Bangladesh, we will launch a smart pay-parking system.
The meeting came up with a proposal to initially start a pilot project at one of the locations from Agrabad Commercial Area and Wasa Junction to Sholashar Railway Station on January 23, (Tuesday) jointly conducted by City corporation , CMP and Btrack Solutions.

CCc Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam said, to popularize pay-parking, we will make public announcements and microphones to make people aware. He proposed to start a ‘night market’ to rid the city of hawkers.
