The city corporation is going to introduce pay-parking for the first time in the port city of Chittagong. As a pilot project, this pay-parking will start in Agrabad commercial area of the city from next March. Initially, this parking will cover hundreds of cars. The authorities have plans to increase this number later. If the project is successfully implemented, then pay-parking will be introduced in different areas of the city, said those concerned.
A tripartite agreement with the city corporation, traffic department and technical IT institute is expected to be reached in this regard next week.
According to City Corporation sources, the City Corporation has taken the initiative of paying parking for a long time to reduce the parking anarchy and traffic congestion in the city. But due to the objection of the traffic department, the company could not go ahead with it so far. The city corporation has recently earmarked the Agrabad commercial area for paid parking after getting the traffic department’s approval. The traffic department has also agreed to pay-parking at this place.Recently, the survey work has also been completed at this place. The surveying company said that 190 cars can be parked there. However, for the time being, the city corporation will arrange parking for about one hundred cars. Parking can be done by registering through apps. But for parking, you have to pay by the hour. Hourly rates have not yet been determined.
