Labour Appellate Tribunal has extended the bail of Grameen Telecom Chairman Dr Muhammad Yunus in a case filed for violation of labour law.
The tribunal also set April 16 as the next date of hearing on the appeal, sources at the court said.
The court passed the order on Sunday in presence of Dr Yunus and three other top officials of Grameen Telecom.
Earlier this morning, the four appeared before the tribunal in Bijaynagar area of Paltan to file an appeal for the extension of Yunu’s bail in the case.
The Labour Appellate Tribunal on January 28 granted bail to Dr Muhammad Yunus and three other in the labour law violation case.
The Dhaka Third Labour Court on January 1 sentenced the four to six months’ of imprisonment, with a fine of Tk 25000 each, in the case.
The court also granted them conditional bail on the same day.
Rejecting the judgment, the Nobel laureate said, “I have been punished for a crime that I havenÕt committed… If you want to call it justice, you can.”
On September 9, 2021, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) filed the case against Dr Yunus and three others alleging that they violated the labour law. The court on June 6, 2023, framed charges against Yunus and three others in the case.
