Detective Branch of police has raided the Dhanmondi residence of Independent candidate Nahid Sultana Juthi over commotion, brawl and scuffle over the counting of votes in Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election.
The raid was conducted on Friday night. During the raid, five people were arrested. At that time, Juthi was not found at her residence.
Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi is the wife of Jubo League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash.
Earlier on Friday, assistnat attorney general (AAG) Md Saifur Rahman Siddiqui filed an attempt to murder case againt 30 to 40 people at Shahbag Police Station on Friday afternoon. In the case, the plaintiff made 20 people including Independent candidate for the SCBA polls Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi and BNP-backed secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol accused. Some 30 to 40 more unidentified people were made accused in the case.
The palintiff mentioned in the case that suddenly 20 lawyers including Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi and BNP-backed secretary candidate Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, along with 30 to 40 more unidentified people forcibly entered Shahid Shafiur Rahman Auditorium on the ground floor of the Supreme Court Bar building brandishing firearms and started hurling abusive languages at him and other members of the election sub-committee.
Besides, the plaintiff mentioned about the attacks including the attemp to murder in the case.
In connection with the case, police raided different places in the capital and arrested Barrister Osman Chowdhury, lawyers Kazi Bashir Ahmed, Hasanuzzaman, Tariqul Islam and Enamul Huq. They were produced before a court in Dhaka today (Saturday) seeking to place them on a five-day remand. After the hearing, the court placed each of them on a three-day remand.
Later, the case was transferred to the Detective Branch of police from Shahbag Police Station. It is learnt that the DB is questioning the five accused under remand.
Nahid Sultana Juthi could not be contacted despite making several phone calls regarding the allegations against her.
