Under the National Urban Poverty Reduction Programme, various climate resilient infrastructures have been constructed in South Jelepara Ward No. 5 Kalurghat of Chittagong city through the Climate Resilient Municipal Infrastructure Fund (CRMIF) funded by LGD, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and UNDP and with the support of Chittagong City Corporation.The project includes 115.85 m retaining wall, 115.85 m fill road with CC road, 4.57 m slice gate, 150 plantations, 48.78 m footpath and 6.10 m stairs. The total cost of the project is 82 lakh 48 thousand 658 taka, of which Chittagong City Corporation grant is 7 lakh 50 thousand taka and UNDP funding is 74 lakh 98 thousand 658 taka.Projects also include climate resilient dams, community latrines, pavements paved with pavement tiles made from plastic waste, and low-cost climate resilient ferro-cement houses.
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden visited these UNDP projects in Chittagong today during her four-day visit to Bangladesh. He visited as a goodwill ambassador. The Princess visited the living standards of communities displaced by climate impacts and spoke to successful local women.
Grants have been given through various projects to improve the quality of life of people displaced by climate change. These include 22 beneficiaries for business, 14 beneficiaries for education grants, 11 beneficiaries for skill development training and 13 beneficiaries for nutrition grants.
Local successful women included in the project share their success stories with the Princess. The Princess listens to them attentively and praises the success of the beneficiaries. He also praised their fighting spirit.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, UNDP International Project Manager Yogesh Pradhanong were present on the occasion.
In the afternoon visit the Asian University for Women in Princes City. The Princess witnessed and interacted with various activities of the students supported by UNDP including “Innovative Training Course”. At the university he erected the “Crown Princess Victoria Room” named after him.
Apart from this, Princess participated in Iftar with the students.
