Road construction work is going on at Kalurghat Bridge in Chittagong. The first casting with concrete has already been completed. Walkway and carpeting work is almost complete. The second casting will start soon. It will take about a month to complete the second casting. After the completion of this work, it is expected that vehicles will ply through the Kalurghat bridge next month.
Vehicular movement has been stopped since August 1 last year for renovations. However, the Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar train is running after the bridge railway renovation. The renovation is going on in several stages. A new walkway is being constructed for pedestrian crossing through the bridge. At present, 80 percent of the walkway is complete. Due to its construction, pedestrians will not have to come onto the main road of the bridge.
On the other hand, with the railway tracks between the bridges, the carpeting would easily lift up and water would accumulate inside the railway tracks, damaging the sheets. Now the water drainage path is being laid on the existing pavement by pouring special technology concrete. In the meantime, carpeting work has started on the bridge by casting special technology. After that, the road will be constructed with pitch on the concrete casting. Then the traffic will be suitable.
In this regard, engineer Golam Mostafa said, “Currently, the renovation of the bridge is going on rapidly, efforts are being made to finish it within one to two months. The work is going on under the guidance of the expert team of BUET. Our effort is to complete the work quickly and open the bridge for traffic. It will make people’s communication easier.
