Bagha Sharif of the same district became the champion after defeating Mohammad Rashed of Comilla in the traditional Abdul Jabbar wrestling match of Chittagong.
The two faced each other in the finals of the 115th edition of wrestling on Thursday (April 25) afternoon. Rashed lost to Sharif after 11 minutes of suffocating fight.
Bagha Sharif’s house is in Mahipur village of Homna police station in Comilla. Both Bagha Sharif and Rashed are disciples of four-time (2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023) champion Shahjalal Bali of Comilla. Shahjalal Bali did not participate in this year’s event to give two disciples a chance
Earlier, after the opening, the game started around 4:30 pm. Hundreds of victims participated in it. Srijan Chakma of Khagrachari won the third place in the game.
It should be noted that in 1909 Abdul Jabbar, a local businessman from Badar Pati area, started wrestling. Since then, this game is organized at Laldighi Maidan on 12 Baisakh of every Bengali year. The game was named ‘Jabbar’s Balikhela’ after the businessman Abdul Jabbar.
