President, PM recall Sher-e-Bangla

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday recalled the contributions of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq to the economic emancipation of the peasants of Bengal, reports BSS.

In separate messages issued on the 62nd death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla, they paid rich tributes to the memory of AK Fazlul Huq.

In his message, President Mohammed Shahabuddin said Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq was an extraordinary, wise and prudent politician in the Indian sub-continent.

As an efficient politician and social workers, he formed for welfare of commoners for more than 50 years, while he was familiar as a pro-people leader, the President said, recalling that She-e-Bangla formed Krishak-Praja Party (KPP) in 1936 and Sramik-Krishak Dal in 1953 for protecting the rights of famers and workers.

As the chief minister of undivided Bengal, Fazlul Huq had set bright the examples of development in different sectors including education, politics and social reforms in this region, he said.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Sher-e-Bangla.

She said, “He struggled throughout his life for the economic emancipation of the peasants of this country.”

The premier said because of his bold leadership, liberal and benevolent characteristics, the people dubbed him as Sher-e-Bangla or Banglar Bagh (Tiger of Bengal).

She recalled different steps taken by Sher-e-Bangla, including the formation of the Debt Settlement Board, for the welfare of the repressed and exploited farmers.

The Prime Minister said the greatest Bengali of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had ideological unity and political affinity with Sher-e-Bangla.

“Bangabandhu struggled throughout his life against exploitation and deprivation… He worked to build a progressive democratic and non-communal Bangladesh free from repression and exploration”, she said, adding that Bangabandhu had created scope for the Bengali nation to live upholding their head high by establishing an independent Bangladesh.
