Chittagong District Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said, Karnaphuli river is getting polluted and shrinking due to encroachment pollution. The salinity has gone up to Halda. Due to which the city dwellers will not get water. There will be no water in the tube wells of such villages. Even if the water rises, it will be salty. Moreover, the most important thing is to keep the flow of Karnaphuli normal to keep the country’s economy running. We will take all kinds of measures including eviction of illegal structures to protect Karnaphuli.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at Sampan Beach Competition-1431 organized by Chittagong History and Culture Research Center on Friday (May 10).
Tarek Mistry Majhi of Charpatharghata area of Karnaphuli became the champion, Ismat Ullah Shah of Shikalbaha area of Karnaphuli became the second, Motialli Shah of the same area got the third place.
