Police kicking of worshipers in Delhi goes viral

A police sub-inspector has been temporarily suspended in connection with the kicking of worshipers in Delhi’s Indralok area. A video of the incident on Friday has gone viral on social media.

In the video, it is seen that many people were praying together on the street. While they are prostrating, a policeman tries to kick the worshipers away.
Social media users are condemning the incident and demanding strict punishment of the guilty police personnel.
The local people gathered in front of the metro rail station in the area and demonstrated till Friday evening.

What are the police saying?

The Delhi Police has temporarily dismissed, i.e. suspended, the sub-inspector Manoj Tamar responsible for the incident.

A Delhi Police official said that a departmental inquiry has been started against the accused police personnel in the incident. He has been suspended with immediate effect.

North Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Meena told news agency ANI, “A video has surfaced. That video has gone viral. Action has been taken against the police personnel seen in the video.
Along with the local people, we conveyed the message to everyone that punitive action is being taken. Law and order in the area should be maintained,” said Mr. Mina.
A person present at the scene said, “Delhi police did it very badly. They beat up the namazees! Such an incident has never happened here before.”

“The policeman who did this should be suspended forever instead of being suspended. If not, other policemen can do the same,” he said
A person named Ashok Kumar Pandey wrote on social media, “I was shocked for a while. I did not expect such despicable behavior. I wonder what image of my country will be created when this video spreads all over the world. Shame, shame.
