Commerce State Minister Ahasanul Islam Titu has blamed the rain for the temporary price hike in the commodities and kitchen market.
He said: “Currently, floods are affecting 18 districts of the country. Additionally, rain has submerged crop fields nationwide, impacting the kitchen market and causing commodity prices to rise. However, I believe this situation is temporary.”
He said this during a press conference at the TCB auditorium on Saturday.
He said: “The recent hike in commodity prices is not the result of any syndicates. The conditions at the markets are not conducive to selling products comfortably. Waterlogged fields across the country have disrupted the smooth supply of goods.”
The state minister further said: “No businessman will be allowed to form syndicates exploiting the rain or flood situation. Under the current government’s term, no businessman has been able to form syndicates in the past six months.”
The state minister warned against syndicate and said: “We are ready to take stringent measures if necessary. We will maintain vigilant surveillance.”
