BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has criticised the government’s move to ban the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.
“The goverment has adopted this ill strategy to change the issue now prevailing in the country in the wake of the quota reform movement,” he said while addressing a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital on Tuesday (July 30) afternoon.
Replying to a question of a journalist, Mirza Fakhrul said the goverment brings a new issue in front of people to divert another issue. “But, the BNP’s position is that it believes in a multi-party democracy. Communist Party was banned during the reign of Pakistan. The autocratic governments take such decisions to ban the political parties. Awami League is a major patroniser of militancy in Bangladesh.”
Demanding the withdrawal of curfew, the BNP chief also called for taking the army to the baracks as soon as possible.
Holding the government responsible for the anarchy centering the quota reform movement, Mirza Fakhrul demanded resignation of it. “This government has now turned into a public enemy.”
