Over 60m new textbooks distributed to students on New Year’s Day

Primary and secondary level students on Wednesday, the first day of the New Year, got over 60 million copies of new textbooks at no cost across the country.
On the first day of the year, 60.8 million books were distributed nationwide simultaneously in primary and secondary schools.
Of these, 441 books at primary and secondary school levels have been revised.
Out of 90.64 million textbooks in Bengali and English versions for classes one to five and for ethnic groups, a total of 46.39 million have been distributed so far this year.
Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Prof Dr AKM Riazul Hasan said that from Wednesday, a total of 60.8 million books have been distributed among students of secondary schools out of 410 million textbooks.
Of these, a total of 16.59 million books have been made PDI, he said, adding that the remaining books will be distributed soon.
He said 441 revised primary and secondary books will be available online on the NCTB website.
The remaining primary level textbooks will be distributed among the students by Sunday.
On the other hand, all books will be distributed to the students of all levels by January 20.
Meanwhile, Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud officially unveiled the new textbooks for the new academic year at a program held at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Wednesday.
The education adviser said that a difficult situation was created for printing books through the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) till the end of 2024 as books were printed abroad earlier.
Printing books abroad has been stopped for this year, he added.
This time, better quality books, cover, and advanced printing have been arranged for the students, he added.
The adviser said that the work of printing books will be updated in the future based on the recent experience.
