Renowned actress Pori Moni has been accused of physically assaulting her domestic worker over a dispute related to feeding the actress’s one-year-old child.

The alleged incident occurred on April 2, and the alleged victim, Pinky Akter, filed a formal complaint at Bhatara Police Station in Dhaka on April 3.

Bhatara Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mazharul Islam confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that an investigation is underway. “We are verifying the claims, and necessary actions will be taken accordingly. Pori Moni may be questioned regarding the allegations,” he said.

Sub-Inspector Ariful Islam, who is leading the investigation, mentioned that the complaint has not yet been officially registered as either a general diary (GD) or a case. “After an initial inquiry, we will decide the next course of action,” he stated.

According to Pinky Akter, she was hired as a domestic worker at Pori Moni’s residence a month ago through an agent named Kader. Her primary responsibility was to take care of the actress’s child and ensure regular feeding.

Recounting the incident, Pinky said, “On April 2, I was preparing a grocery list when the baby started crying. A man named Sourav, a frequent visitor to the house, suggested giving the child solid food. I informed him that the baby had eaten solid food recently and was due for milk instead. As I was preparing the milk, Pori Moni came out of her makeup room and began shouting at me, using offensive language. She accused me of making decisions about her child’s feeding without her permission.”

Pinky alleged that Pori Moni then slapped her multiple times and hit her on the head. “At first, I thought she would stop after a few slaps, but she continued hitting me violently. I fell to the floor three times due to the force of her blows. She then struck my left eye so hard that I still have trouble seeing from it,” Pinky claimed.

She further stated that after the brutal beating, she pleaded to be taken to a hospital, but Pori Moni refused, allegedly threatening her with further violence. “She told me I wasn’t allowed to leave the house and that I would be treated there,” Pinky said.

It was only after Sourav intervened that the actress stopped the assault. However, Pinky lost consciousness for about an hour. Upon regaining consciousness, she requested another domestic worker, Brishti, to help her get medical attention, but was told that Pori Moni was asleep and could not be disturbed.

Desperate for help, Pinky secretly called Kader from the bathroom, but he too refused to assist, citing the actress’s sleep. She then contacted the national emergency service (999) and her cousin, both of whom arrived at Pori Moni’s residence along with the police.

Realizing the police were outside, Pori Moni instructed Brishti to escort Pinky out of the house. Pinky then took a rickshaw to Kurmitola General Hospital, where she received initial medical treatment.

“I am still unwell due to the injuries. I have filed an initial complaint with the police and plan to take further legal action against her,” Pinky stated.

The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
