Bangladesh will join the global community in observing World Accreditation Day 2025 on Monday, with this year’s theme focusing on “Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).”

The Press Information Department (PID) issued a statement on Sunday highlighting the theme and the significance of the occasion.

On the eve of the observance, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus extended his greetings and best wishes to all involved, expressing satisfaction that Bangladesh is participating in the global observance.

“This year’s theme is timely and relevant,” said the Chief Adviser, emphasizing that accreditation plays a vital role in supporting SMEs by ensuring quality throughout the product and service supply chains. He noted that accreditation contributes to the development of national quality infrastructure, the creation of skilled technical manpower, the removal of technical trade barriers, and the facilitation of international market access.

Dr. Yunus pointed out the substantial contribution of the SME sector to Bangladesh’s GDP and its critical role in job creation. However, he acknowledged the sector faces significant challenges, including market access, evolving consumer demands, and financial limitations.

He stressed the need for coordinated global efforts to address these issues and support SME development.

The Chief Adviser commended the efforts of the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), which has awarded accreditation to 155 organizations across government, private, and multinational sectors—including laboratories, diagnostic centers, certification bodies, and inspection agencies—in alignment with international standards.

Dr. Yunus also reaffirmed the interim government’s commitment, formed following the July mass uprising, to the advancement of small and medium industries. He encouraged the BAB to continue playing a proactive role in fostering sustainable industrialization, trade, and investment for the country’s progress.
