5,000 tonnes of Indian diesel arrive country

A consignment of 5,000 metric tons of diesel has arrived the railhead depot in Parbatipur, Dinajpur, through a cross-border pipeline from India.

The diesel was transported from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, India, and arrived late Thursday after approximately 60 hours of transmission through the pipeline.

Assistant depot in-charge Md Jibon confirmed the matter on Friday, stating that the fuel was successfully received and subsequently distributed.

The diesel was transferred to storage facilities of Padma Oil Company Limited, Meghna Petroleum Limited, and Jamuna Oil Company Limited at around 8AM on Friday.

The pipeline ensures a steady fuel supply to eight northern districts of Bangladesh, where africulture heavily depends on diesel for irrigation, as well as for maintaining uninterrupted transport operations.

The 15-year agreement between Bangladesh and India for diesel supply via pipeline was signed on October 22, 2017, to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply for irrigation in eight northern districts and maintain diesel-dependent vehicle operations. Under this arrangement, Bangladesh will import a total of 180,000 metric tons of diesel through the pipeline this year.
