BNP’s Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has won the presidential election with 255 votes, while six of the 349 eligible MPs did not cast their ballots.
The election was held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday. A total of 343 MPs cast their votes, and all 343 ballots were declared valid, according to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin.
The CEC announced the result shortly after the voting ended. He said 349 ballot papers were printed, of which 343 were used by the MPs. All 343 votes were valid.
MPs who did not vote
The MPs who did not cast their ballots include BNP’s Mirza Abbas, independent MP Rumeen Farhana and expelled Jamaat-e-Islami MP Gazi Nazrul Islam.
The identities of the remaining three MPs follow: Osman Farooq and Mostafa Kamal Pasha from BNP and Abul Hasan from Khelafat Majlis.
