Bangladesh wants border killings to stop: Adviser Adilur

Local Government Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan has said the people of Bangladesh want an end to border killings, stressing that the brutal killing of Felani remains a stark reminder of human rights violations along the country’s borders.

Speaking at the nameplate unveiling of “Felani Avenue” , renamed in memory of Felani, he said the road was named to remind people daily of the brutality she suffered.

“Our sister Felani lost her life hanging on a barbed-wire fence. By naming this road, we want to repeatedly remind everyone of the inhuman cruelty inflicted on her,” he said.

The adviser added that the initiative was also intended to draw the attention of the global conscience to what he described as an extremely deplorable situation of border killings persisting along country’s borders.

“That is why the present government wants all border killings to stop,” he said.

The event was organised by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Tuesday (December 16) at Gulshan-2 roundabout, marking the renaming of the road from Gulshan-2 to Pragati Sarani as Felani Avenue.

Felani, a Bangladeshi teenager, was killed by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) while crossing the border.

Local Government Secretary Md Rezaul Maqsood Zahedi, Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Riaz-ul Islam, DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz and other DNCC officials were present at the programme.

At the ceremony, Local Government Secretary Md Rezaul Maqsood Zahedi said the killing of Felani was not an isolated incident but a clear case of human rights violations.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said the renaming of the road symbolised national dignity and protest, reflecting the country’s resolve to uphold its honour with pride.

Following the unveiling, a special prayer was led by Maulana Ansar-ul Karim, imam of DNCC mosque.
