Hadi needs surgery to reactivate brain

Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Moncho currently undergoing treatment in Singapore, will require surgery to reactivate his brain, although all other organs in his body remain functional, according to an update shared by the platform on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post published around 12:17 PM, the Inqilab Moncho said Hadi’s condition must first be fully stabilized before doctors can proceed with the operation.

“The body needs to be completely stable to prepare him for surgery. Treatment may take place in Singapore or England. Surgery is required to activate the brain,” the post said.

Providing the latest medical update, the platform said the immediate focus is to re-establish the connection between Hadi’s body and brain. “Apart from the brain, all other organs are active,” it added, while Hadi’s family appealed for prayers for his recovery.

Hadi, also a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot on Friday (December 12), a day after the national election schedule was announced.

The attack took place on Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan, where assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at close range on Hadi while he was travelling in a rickshaw during campaign activities.

He was rushed in critical condition to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors found that a bullet had entered the right side of his head and exited through the left, with fragments still lodged in his brain.

At the family’s request, Hadi was later transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

On Monday (December 15), he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment.

His brother, Omar bin Hadi, and friend Aminul Hasan Faisal are currently accompanying him there.
