Govt focuses on law, order to create trade-friendly environment: Home Minister

 

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government is prioritizing law and order to foster a stable, business-friendly environment across the country.

Speaking during a courtesy call by members of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at his office in the Secretariat, the minister emphasized that maintaining public order and stability is crucial for promoting trade and investment.

“Our main objective is to ensure a favorable environment for business by controlling the law and order situation and maintaining overall stability,” he said.

 

Highlighting market stabilization efforts, Salahuddin Ahmed said the government is taking steps to prevent artificial price hikes and dismantle long-standing syndicates that have dominated the commodity sector for over a decade.

He added that innovative approaches would be adopted to ensure the security of trade and commerce nationwide.

The minister also addressed concerns in the transport sector, pledging to eliminate extortion and restore discipline through coordinated drives in divisional headquarters and major cities, with support from law enforcement and administrative authorities.

During the meeting, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed sought the government’s assistance in improving law and order, curbing extortion and ensuring discipline in the transport system.

Other DCCI officials present included Senior Vice President Razeev H Chowdhury, Vice President Md. Salem Sulaiman, and Acting Secretary General Dr. A K M Asaduzzaman Patwary.

The Home Minister stressed that the government is committed to meeting both short-term and long-term expectations of citizens while creating a stable, trade-friendly environment across Bangladesh.
