A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud and his wife, Noorun Fatema, amid allegations of amassing illegal wealth.
The court also ordered the freezing of 21 bank accounts and the seizure of a luxury SUV worth Tk 8.5 million.
The order was issued on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib following separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC, Hasan Mahmud and his wife allegedly abused their positions to acquire wealth inconsistent with their known sources of income. The ACC further stated that there is a risk of the assets being transferred or disposed of, which could obstruct the ongoing investigation.
In light of these concerns, the court granted the ACC’s request to freeze the bank accounts, seize the vehicle, and restrict their foreign travel to ensure an effective investigation.
