Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday directed the Education Ministry to explore measures to ease traffic congestion in the capital during school hours.
The directive came during a meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat with Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said the discussion focused on identifying practical ways to reduce congestion during peak school hours and introducing alternative arrangements.
The Prime Minister asked the ministry to prepare concrete proposals.
Officials noted that excessive use of private cars for school transport is a major contributor to traffic jams. In some cases, around 100 vehicles gather outside a single school serving only 150 students, creating severe congestion and making access difficult for others.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to address such inefficiencies and find sustainable solutions to improve traffic flow and ensure smoother commuting for students.
Following the meeting, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku and State Minister Aninda Islam Amit also met the Prime Minister.
Later, Chief of Naval Staff M Nazmul Hassan paid a courtesy call on him.
