State must curb orruption in land management, says State Minister

State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Helal Uddin, on Thursday emphasized that corruption in land management will not be tolerated and must be eliminated ins He called for strict legal action against corrupt officials and urged all stakeholders to work collectively to implement the government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption.

The remarks were made during the closing ceremony and certificate distribution of Advanced Land Management Course held at Land Administration Training Centre (LATC) auditorium in Dhaka’s Katabon area.

The event was attended by additional district commissioners (ADCs) and upazila executive officers (UNOs).

Highlighting the need for efficient, transparent and citizen-friendly land services, the State Minister instructed field officials to resolve all matters promptly and avoid unnecessary delays.

He stressed the importance of making land services more user-friendly, urging research on streamlining processes beyond routine procedures.

He also proposed establishing a state-of-the-art academy within the Ministry of Land to further modernize land administration.

Barrister Mir Helal Uddin emphasized that no compromise should be made in legal matters and that officials have no authority to bypass the law.

He urged providing legal protection to ensure a safe working environment for staff.

The minister also warned against unregulated online operators outside government offices and instructed that complex online land services should only be handled by trained personnel with proper credentials.

Speaking on land modernization, he noted that the sector has become increasingly automated and digitalized.

He called for awareness campaigns in rural areas to ensure citizens understand that modernized land services are simpler and less prone to fraud.

The event was presided over by LATC Director (Joint Secretary) Mohammad Abul Khair. Special guests included Senior Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed and Director General of Department of Land Records and Surveys (Grade-1) Dr Mohammad Mahmud Hasan.

The course director, Khan A. Sabur Khan, delivered the welcome speech.

A total of 38 additional district commissioners and 36 upazila executive officers participated in the 14th and 18th five-day Advanced Land Management Courses.

At the conclusion of the program, the State Minister distributed crests and certificates to outstanding participants.titutionally.
