Dark, dense clouds have blanketed large parts of the country, turning morning skies into evening gloom in many areas.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has reported increased rainfall due to the formation of deep convective cloud systems over the northern regions and adjacent areas.

Sreemangal recorded the highest rainfall at 158mm on Tuesday morning. Meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam said that moderate to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the Mymensingh and Sylhet  divisions through Wednesday. Rainfall levels may range from 44 to 88 mm in 24 hours.

He further added, the pressure gradient over the North Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas remains steep, prompting authorities to advise caution at sea. Maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to hoist  local warning signal no. 3.

Fishing boats and trawlers have been advised to remain close to the coast and operate with caution.

According to the forecast, gusty or squally winds with speeds of 60 to 80 km/h may sweep across regions including Dhaka, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet from the west or northwest. Inland river ports in these areas have been advised to hoist warning signal no. 2.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as continued heavy rainfall could heighten the risk of flooding in low-lying districts.

The rain may persist in the country, including Chattogram, in the next four days, the met office added.

Meanwhile,Due to the three-hour-long heavy shower, parts of the ctg city such as Panchlaish,GEC Mor, Katalganj, Agrabad commercial area, Kapashgola, and Halishahar saw waterlogging, causing widespread suffering for commuters and office-goers.

Panchlaish resident Sajidul islam said that the area experiences waterlogging whether it’s light or heavy rain though the situation has improved in parts of the city.

“No vehicles want to enter this area when it rains. You have to walk through water.”
