Tk 8.42cr allocated for athletes’ welfare

 

The government has allocated more than Tk 8.41 crore in sports allowances, educational scholarships and medical assistance for athletes and sports students in the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Under a programme implemented by the National Sports Welfare Foundation, a total of 3,262 athletes and sports students will receive financial support aimed at improving their welfare and encouraging sporting talent across the country.

According to the foundation, 1,797 athletes have been awarded sports allowances amounting to Tk 5.39 crore. In addition, Tk 32.40 lakh has been provided as medical and financial assistance to 42 financially distressed and ill athletes.

The programme also includes educational scholarships for 1,423 promising and emerging sports students from different parts of the country. A total of Tk 2.70 crore has been allocated for the scholarship scheme.

The initiative is intended to support current and former athletes facing financial hardship while helping nurture the next generation of sporting talent.
