The present era is fundamentally internet-based, making social media accounts an inevitable requirement for almost everyone.

As digital footprints expand, so do risks of social engineering and account takeovers. The hacktivist group Bangladesh Civilian Force (BCF) initially began its official journey in 2019 to counter these threats by recovering compromised social media accounts. Today, the group is pivoting from its grassroots origins, seeking to collaborate with Bangladeshi government agencies to utilize their technical expertise in fortifying the nation’s digital infrastructure.

Hacktivist group BCF officially established its online presence for account recovery services in 2019. Their initial compensation model was entirely philanthropic: clients were asked to provide one day’s food for underprivileged children in exchange for technical help.

As demand surged and the group’s membership, primarily comprising financially dependent university students, expanded, BCF transitioned to charging a modest service fee. Despite this, the organization continues to provide free services for charitable initiatives and socially beneficial activities.

Since its formal launch, the organization has built a massive operational footprint. To date, BCF claims to have successfully recovered more than 15,000 personal, business, and social media accounts.

Beyond basic account recovery activities, the platform’s activities have increasingly surfaced in national and international hacktivism incidents.
