CA Yunus unveils post-election plans

Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus has said his work after the upcoming national election will concentrate on expanding digital healthcare services, strengthening youth development and advancing his long standing Three Zero agenda.

He shared the information on Sunday during a meeting with Akie Abe, head of Foundation for Encouragement of Social Contribution, at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.

Abe, widow of former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, is visiting Bangladesh while leading a delegation linked to the activities of her foundation.

Briefing reporters later at the Foreign Service Academy, Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said Abe sought to learn about Yunus’s plans following the election, prompting the chief adviser to outline his post poll focus areas.

According to Majumder, Yunus said his first priority would be the development of digital healthcare systems aimed at improving access for women and other vulnerable groups.

He also plans to introduce platforms that would allow expatriate Bangladeshis to monitor the health conditions of their family members at home and provide guidance and support from abroad.

Youth development will remain another major area of attention, with Yunus continuing his efforts to promote entrepreneurship among young people and help them build sustainable ventures.

In addition, he reaffirmed his commitment to the Three Zero agenda, which promotes zero poverty, zero unemployment and zero net carbon emissions, describing it as an ongoing mission he intends to pursue further after the election.

During the meeting, Yunus also reflected on his close personal relationship with the late Shinzo Abe, who was assassinated in 2022, recalling their long standing friendship and cooperation.

He informed Abe that he is scheduled to visit Japan in the third week of March, following the February 12 election, at the invitation of the Sasakawa Foundation.

During the visit, he plans to attend a conference organised by the foundation, which is known for its research initiatives including work on ocean related issues, and to discuss opportunities for deeper collaboration between Bangladesh and the organisation.
