In Chittagong, 10 thousand 950 pieces of raw hide have been collected more than the target. Greater Chittagong rawhide traders set a target of 350,000 pieces of leather. But this year 3 lakh 60 thousand 950 pieces of leather have been collected. Out of this, 2 lakh 97 thousand 150 pieces of cow raw hides, 12 thousand 200 pieces of buffalo raw hides and 51 thousand 600 pieces of goat raw hides were collected. On the other hand, the volunteers of Gausia Committee Bangladesh, which has been discussed in the burial of dead bodies during the Corona period, have collected and preserved the raw hides under their own management like last year.
The traders say that the volunteers of the Gausia Committee of Bangladesh have collected raw hides in truck by truck from different upazilas besides Chittagong city. Most of these are free. As a result, the seasonal raw hides merchant syndicate could not benefit.
Gausia Committee Central Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Advocate Mosaheb Uddin Bakhteyar said, Gausia Committee collects about 100,000 pieces of raw hides in truck from north-south in Chittagong metropolis. A large part of the raw hides collected have been salted and preserved under our own management.
In this regard, President of Greater Chittagong Raw Leather Traders Cooperative Society (Muslim Uddin) said, we have collected raw leather in many areas of Chittagong, especially Raujan, Satkania, Chandanish, Patia, Boalkhali, Anwara, Rangunia-Kaptai, Hathajari-Nazirhat, Fatikchari. The Gausia Committee collected about 20,000 raw hides.

Md Muslim Uddin said, we have collected leather at a fair price. Bought more leather than we could afford. At present, the number of Artdars in Chittagong is 20 to 25 people. Even if the financial situation is not good, many people collect leather. We have been repeatedly told by the administration not to spoil the skin. That’s why many of us have borrowed and collected extra raw hides.

Muslim Uddin said that the tannery owners buy leather from traders at the price set by the government. But the seasonal traders bought hides at their ‘desired’ price without realizing it. Later, he complained that he did not get the price as per the demand while selling. He also said that there was no damage to the rawhide this time.
It may be noted that this year the government has fixed the price of salted cowhide at Tk 50-55 per square foot outside Dhaka. Apart from this, the price of Khasi salted leather has been fixed at Tk 20-25 this year and goat skin at Tk 18-20.
