Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has claimed that the country has once again been pushed into a “blind alley of conspiracy,” warning of deepening threats to democracy and national sovereignty.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday, Rizvi accused the current government of resurrecting what he called the “fascist legacy of 1975” in a new form. “For the past 16 years, Bangladesh has been ruled through misgovernance, extrajudicial killings, the systematic suppression of opposition politics, media censorship, and the crushing of dissent,” he said.
He alleged that imperialist and hegemonic forces are attempting to redraw Bangladesh’s political landscape to serve their own interests. “Our struggle is not over. Democracy has not yet been restored. We may have to face even greater challenges ahead to reclaim it,” Rizvi warned.
Emphasizing the party’s resolve, he said leaders and activists across all levels of the BNP, along with allied nationalist forces, are fully prepared to confront the ongoing crisis. “We stand ready to fight for the restoration of true democracy and constitutional rule,” he added.
Rizvi expressed concern over the lack of assurance for free and fair elections, citing rumors of hidden agendas and elaborate master plans to manipulate the political process. “We continue to hear about various conspiracies—behind-the-scenes maneuvers aimed at perpetuating authoritarian rule,” he said.
He also recognized the role of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in guiding the recent wave of student and public resistance. “The recent movement was well-organized under his leadership. But despite the people’s courage and sacrifices, democracy has not yet returned to the country.”
Rizvi called for unity among all democratic and nationalist forces to resist autocracy and ensure a transparent, credible electoral process that reflects the will of the people
