A Dhaka court has rejected bail petitions of former minister Abdul Latif Siddique and journalist Manjurul Alam Panna in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyash passed the order on Thursday after hearing arguments from both sides.
Defence lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi sought bail, while Additional Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon opposed the plea.
According to case details, on August 28, a group of men disrupted a roundtable discussion organised by a newly formed platform, “Moncho 71”, at Dhaka Reporters Unity.
The intruders vandalised banners, assaulted participants and confined some attendees, including Siddique and Prof. Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karjon, until police intervened and detained 16 people.
The case was later filed at Shahbagh Police Station by SI Amirul Islam, leading to the arrests of Siddique and Panna.
