. The crescent moon marking the start of the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted in Bangladesh, confirming that fasting will begin across the country on Thursday.
The announcement came following a meeting of National Moon Sighting Committee held at Islamic Foundation’s conference room at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka on Wednesday evening.
The session was presided over by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad.
The committee’s decision officially confirmed the start of Ramadan for the year 1447 Hijri.
Taraweeh prayers, the nightly special Ramadan prayers, will commence tonight in mosques across the country.
During Ramadan, Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to dusk, a practice observed as a time of self-restraint, reflection and spiritual growth.
The month is also marked by increased charitable activities, prayer, and community gatherings.
