EC seeks power connections for 325 polling stations ahead of polls

The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the Power Division to provide electricity to 325 polling stations nationwide that currently lack power ahead of the upcoming national election.

In a letter sent on Sunday to Senior Secretary of the Power Division, the EC noted, “Among the 42,761 polling stations set up for the referendum and the 13th parliamentary election, 325 have no electricity. It is requested to take necessary steps to ensure power connections at these polling stations wherever feasible.”

Rangamati tops the list with 51 stations without electricity, followed by Bandarban (50), Kurigram (33), Bhola (31), Khagrachhari (22), and Sirajganj (18). Other districts with polling stations lacking electricity include Gaibandha (11), Tangail and Manikganj (9 each), Faridpur (8), Rajshahi, Dhaka, Shariatpur and Noakhali (7 each), among others.

Several districts, including Bagerhat, Barishal, Narsingdi, Madaripur and Chandpur, have one station each without electricity.

Earlier, the EC released the final list of 42,761 polling stations nationwide for the 13th national election and the referendum.

Of these, 115,137 rooms have been designated for male voters and 129,602 for female voters, making a total of 244,649 voting rooms.

The EC declared on December 12 that the 13th national election and the referendum on the National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order will be held simultaneously on February 12, 2026.

The deadline for submitting nomination papers expired on December 29, with scrutiny ongoing until January 4.

The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 20 and election campaigns will run from January 22 until 7:30 AM on February 10, 48 hours before polling.
