Income from Chittagong port in 11 months of current financial year is Tk 4 thousand 100 crores

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said in the Jatiya Sangsad that in the 11th month of the current financial year, 11.34 million tons of goods were imported and exported through Chittagong Port, the largest port in the country. In the 11 months of the current financial year, Chittagong port’s import-export revenue has been more than Tk 4,100 crore.
The State Minister gave this information in response to the written questions of Chittagong-1 Constituency Member of Parliament Mahbub Ur Rahman and Laxmipur-1 Constituency Member of Parliament Anwar Hossain Khan on Tuesday (June 25) in the National Parliament session. Speaker Dr. Chaired by Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, question and answer was presented at the table.
State Minister Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that Chittagong port is the main sea port of Bangladesh. About 92 percent of the country’s import-export trade and about 98 percent of containerized goods are handled through Chittagong port. In the fiscal year 2022-2023, 11 crore 82 lakh 97 thousand 643 tons of goods have been imported and exported through Chittagong port. From July 2022 to May 2023, 108 million 36 thousand 446 tons of goods were imported and exported through Chittagong port.
He said that in the 11 months from July 2023 to May 2024 of the fiscal year 2023-2024, 11 crore 34 lakh 87 thousand 649 tons of goods were imported and exported, which is about 5.05 percent more than the same period of the fiscal year 2022-2023. In response to the question of member Anwar Hossain Khan, the state minister said that till May of the current financial year, a total revenue of Tk 292 crore 51 lakh has been received from the operations of Mongla port and Tk 4 thousand 144 crore 66 lakh from the operation of Chittagong port.
