Opposition Leader in the parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman has issued an urgent appeal for ending international conflict and fostering peaceful resolutions, citing mounting economic pressures on Bangladesh stemming from global instability.
The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer expressed alarm over deteriorating conditions in a statement posted to his verified Facebook page, linking escalating tensions involving Iran to severe economic repercussions affecting the nation.
Dr Shafiqur highlighted that fuel shortages have created lengthy queues at filling stations, driven price increases, and slowed industrial operations. Ordinary households are grappling with profound uncertainty about their immediate circumstances as energy constraints tighten across sectors.
“As the country returns to full operations on March 29 following Eid holidays, we confront a crisis threatening our transport infrastructure, industries, agricultural productivity, and the daily well-being of millions,” the opposition leader stated.
Emphasizing the critical nature of the situation, Rahman appealed to all political parties to transcend partisan differences and prioritize public welfare in their decision-making.
“The people who entrusted us with leadership and continue enduring hardship deserve better. This moment demands unity, not political rivalry,” he declared.
The Jamaat chief insisted that political disagreements must not obstruct coordinated responses to national emergencies. He urged leaders across the spectrum to collaborate in protecting citizens and stabilizing the economy during this vulnerable period.
“Whatever separates us politically pales in comparison to our shared identity as Bangladeshis. We must unite, work beyond party boundaries, and confront this crisis as a single nation,” Dr Shafiqur Rahman emphasized.
