Jamaat condemns threats to Christian institutions, calls for religious harmony

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned recent threats reportedly targeting Christian places of worship and missionary institutions, urging the protection of communal harmony across the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar said the party had learned about anonymous, undated letters circulating threats of attacks on churches and missionary establishments in the name of so-called religious groups.

Describing the threats as “heinous and condemnable,” Parwar emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami rejects all such acts.

He highlighted Bangladesh’s long-standing tradition of religious coexistence, where people of all faiths have peacefully exercised their rights for centuries.

“This country belongs to people of all religions, and every citizen has the full freedom to practise their faith peacefully without discrimination,” the statement read.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment to justice and humane values, Parwar said Jamaat-e-Islami stands for protecting religious freedom and fundamental human rights for all, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.

He reiterated the party’s pledge to support the Christian community, indigenous groups, and followers of all faiths in safeguarding their lives, property, dignity and security.

The Jamaat leader also called on law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any attempts to disrupt communal harmony.

He urged citizens from all walks of life to stay united against any conspiracy threatening the country’s tradition of religious coexistence.
