Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said his party accepts the overall outcome of 13th parliamentary election and remains committed to respecting the rule of law, while positioning itself as a responsible and constructive opposition force.
In a statement shared on his verified Facebook account on Saturday, Shafiqur Rahman thanked party volunteers and supporters for their sustained efforts throughout the election period.
He acknowledged that the results had left many activists disappointed but stressed that their contributions were meaningful and would shape the party’s future political course.
Describing the party’s performance as a step forward, the Jamaat chief said winning 77 seats marked a significant expansion of its presence in parliament.
He characterised the outcome as a solid platform for future growth rather than a political setback.
Reflecting on broader political experience, Shafiqur Rahman noted that electoral success often evolves over time, with parties sometimes enduring long journeys before returning to power.
He emphasised that democratic politics demands patience, credibility among the public and careful preparation for what lies ahead.
Reaffirming Jamaat’s political stance, he said the party would continue to work toward strengthening democratic norms, protecting citizens’ rights and advocating for a fair and accountable system of governance.
He also pledged that Jamaat would play a vigilant role in parliament by holding the government to account while contributing positively to national development.
The Jamaat leader further alleged that some party workers faced intimidation and harassment during the campaign but praised their resilience and commitment to peaceful democratic participation.
Stressing the party’s long-term vision, he said Jamaat’s struggle has never been limited to a single election and that it would continue to pursue principled and non-violent politics in the period ahead.
