Minister says fuel stock sufficient despite temporary shortage

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said that the country has sufficient fuel reserves, attributing the recent shortage to a sudden surge in demand.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning at the Secretariat on the first working day after the Eid holidays, the minister explained that the situation arose due to a mismatch between demand and supply.

”A gap has developed between demand and supply. Demand has increased. We have been supplying at the same rate, and that supply is continuing. When demand rises, a temporary crisis can occur. It’s a matter of common understanding.”

Iqbal Hasan emphasized that fuel supply operations remain ongoing as before and the authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

He also mentioned that the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission works on fuel price adjustments, but the government has not increased fuel prices yet.
