NCP rules out any seat-sharing agreements: Patwary

Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari has announced that the party will not enter into any seat-sharing agreements with other political groups ahead of the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.

Speaking on Saturday at the launch of professional organization National Professional Alliance at Bishwosahitya Kendra in Dhaka’s Banglamotor, he emphasized that the era of negotiating seats and dynastic politics in Bangladesh must end.

Patwari urged smaller parties not to bow to larger political forces, stressing the need to uphold independence and integrity.

“We have begun by breaking old, corrupt practices; now it’s time to build anew,” he said, condemning nepotism, corruption, extortion and politics based on religion.

Highlighting NCP’s policy priorities, Patwari said that if the party forms the government or joins it, private-sector employees will also be entitled to weekends off, a move aimed at reforming labour rights.

He criticized past employment practices, where party loyalty, family connections, and bribery were often prioritized over merit in both public and private sectors.

Turning to media and business practices, Patwari remarked that most journalists earn barely enough to cover their basic expenses, while a significant portion of Bangladesh’s business community has turned into exploitative monopolies.

He also issued a warning to India, stating that any attempts to disrupt Bangladesh’s elections would not be tolerated.

“There are many businesses here; those who try to interfere will have to retreat empty-handed. We are ready to resist any acts of terror in South Asia,” he added.

The event was attended by senior leaders of NCP and marked the debut of National Professional Alliance, a platform aimed at mobilizing professionals in line with the ideals of the July Revolution.
