No specific information yet on Shaheed Hadi’s killer: Adtl IGP

Police have stated that they do not yet have specific or confirmed information on the whereabouts of Faisal, the suspected killer of Inqilab Maocho convener Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.

Speaking at a joint press conference of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday evening (December 21), the additional IGP (Crime and Operations) said there was no reliable information confirming whether the suspect had fled the country.

He cautioned that misinformation often circulates about suspects’ locations following high-profile crimes.

“We do not have specific information about Faisal’s last known location,” Rafiqul Islam told reporters. “Our law enforcement and intelligence agencies are working to determine this. However, we have not found any credible evidence that he has left the country.”

Asked whether any political party had been linked to the killing, he said investigators had not yet found evidence implicating any specific political group, adding that efforts were ongoing to establish accurate facts.

DB chief and Additional Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said there was also no confirmed information on Faisal Karim Masud, noting that investigators were receiving multiple and sometimes conflicting leads, all of which were being verified in the interest of the investigation.

On the motive behind the killing, Shafiqul Islam said the preliminary assessment suggested it was unlikely to be driven by personal enmity and may have been politically motivated. He said the prime suspects, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir, had not yet been arrested, limiting definitive conclusions at this stage.

He added that 10 people have so far been arrested in connection with the killing. Following the shooting, all police units were instructed to treat the case with the highest priority. As part of the investigation, police have recovered the motorcycle used in the crime, along with a weapon, bullets and a passport.

Regarding a photograph uploaded on social media by the suspected shooter, which was reportedly posted from India, Shafiqul Islam said the matter was under investigation and that all forensic and technical aspects were being examined.

Responding to questions about possible masterminds and the presence of suspects near Hadi in video footage, he said these issues were part of a major ongoing investigation, which was being conducted with utmost importance.
