Anis Alamgir placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday (15 December) granted a five-day police remand for journalist Anis Alamgir, who was arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Uttara West Police Station.

The order was issued by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam following a hearing in the case.

Police had initially requested a seven-day remand, submitted by Investigation Officer Inspector Md Moniruzzaman of Uttara West Police Station.

Lawyers representing Anis sought to cancel the remand, while Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui opposed the request on behalf of the state.

After considering both sides, the court approved a five-day remand.

Anis Alamgir was taken into custody by Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) from Dhanmondi on Sunday (14 December) and was later brought to DB office for interrogation.
