Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and the revered Chormonai Pir, has said that holding elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system will put an end to fascism in the country.
He emphasized that such a system would ensure a government accountable to the people, paving the way for building a prosperous and just nation.
Rezaul made the remarks while addressing a public rally held at Shivbari Mor in Khulna on Saturday (July 26).
Rezaul Karim stated, “The toxic legacy of 15 years of corrupt fascism continues to undermine national security. Tyranny destabilizes the country and creates opportunities for exploitation. Therefore, all political parties must remain vigilant about the conduct within their ranks.”
He added, “Following August 5, there has been a broad consensus on the need for reform to rebuild the nation. Such reforms must encompass the state’s structural framework, legal system, and the character and culture of political parties. Although some progress has been made in reforming state institutions and laws, political culture and party ethics have yet to see significant improvement.”
The Chormonai pir further remarked, “Extortion has not diminished, nor has terrorism. On the contrary, politically motivated crimes, including sexual violence, have increased. The brutal killings in front of Mitford Hospital sparked widespread public outrage, which was unfortunately politicized to mask the atrocities.”
Addressing BNP leaders and activists, he urged, “Your party must take responsibility for the misdeeds of your members. Extortionists exploit BNP’s name to intimidate and demand money from the public. It is natural for public resentment to be directed towards BNP. Instead of viewing this as opposition, you should identify and remove criminal elements within your ranks.”
Among others, Islami Andolan Khulna City President Mufti Amanullah, City Vice-President Sheikh Md. Nasir Uddin, District Secretary Hafiz Asadullah Al Galib, and City Secretary Mufti Imran Hossain were present on the occasion.
