50 percent of exportable leather during Eid al-Adha is collected through seasonal traders. On Monday (June 17), the collection of skins of sacrificial animals started in Chittagong.

Seasonal traders are in trouble after collecting animal skins and selling them. They are disappointed with the loss of not getting the expected price.

Traders say that the seasonal traders are incurring losses without accounting for the correct measurement of skins.

Muslim Uddin, President of Chittagong Raw Leather Aartdar Cooperative Society, said that the collection of sacrificial animal skins will continue for the next three days. He mentioned that although the government has set a maximum price of Tk 55 per square foot, the vendors cannot pay more than Tk 25.

Meanwhile, the seasonal traders are in trouble for not getting the fair price. This time too, they reacted angrily by referring to the syndicate of traders in the leather trade.

A seasonal leather trader said, in the hope of profit, I bought the skin of the sacrificial animal in the neighborhood. But when I came to sell it in the market, I saw that the profit was far away, after the rent it took to bring the leather, I had nothing left for the whole day.

Another trader said that although the government fixed the price of leather, the traders complained that they did not listen to it.
It should be noted that a total of 1 crore 4 lakh 8 thousand 918 cattle were sacrificed in the holy Eid-ul-Azha this year. Among these, 20 lakh 57 thousand 520 animals were sacrificed in Chittagong division.
