United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is dispatching his personal envoy to the Middle East to support diplomatic efforts as he once again calls for a peaceful end to the conflict, reports Al Jazeera.
“To the United States and Israel, it is high time to stop the war that is inflicting immense human suffering and already triggering devastating economic consequences,” he said, adding that Iran should “stop attacking their neighbours”.
The UN chief, who has frequently urged a swift end to the conflict, warned that “we are on the edge of a wider war”.
“The conflict is already being felt everywhere,” he added.
