13 Myanmar border guards take shelter in Bangladesh

Thirteen more members of the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) took shelter in Bangladesh on Thursday night amid a conflict between the countryÕs military and the armed rebel group in Rakhine state.

A total of 274 BGP members, so far, have taken shelter n Bangladesh.

Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on Friday said the BGP members surrendered to the members of Coast Guard (CG) in the Naf River after intruding into Bangladesh territory.

The Coast Guard later handed over them to the BGB-11 battalion stationed in Naikhongchhari.
Meanwhile, from February 4, some 7,330 people fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar. Among them, 302 were BGP members, four were family members of BGP personnel, two were army members, 18 were immigration officials, and four were civilians.

They were formally repatriated on February 15.
