At least 17 people were killed and 44 others injured in Kyiv and its surrounding region following a massive overnight Russian missile and drone attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday.

According to a report by GMA (Good Morning America), Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 115 drones and 28 missiles – including 24 ballistic and four anti-ship missiles – targeting 26 locations across the country.

While Ukrainian forces intercepted 98 drones, preliminary data indicates that none of the incoming missiles were shot down due to a critical shortage of air defense ammunition.

President Zelenskyy described the attack as “devastating,” noting that the strikes primarily hit civilian storage facilities, infrastructure, a railway station, a brewery, and building material warehouses.

“Ballistic missile interceptors are what could have saved the lives of those who died today,” Zelenskyy posted on Telegram. He criticized international partners, stating that delays in delivering anti-ballistic systems directly lead to horrific casualties.

He also urged the G7, EU, and global allies to impose sanctions on Russian ballistic missile production components.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the “massive strike,” claiming it targeted military transport, logistics, and distribution centers in the Kyiv region, including storage facilities for drone components, electronic warfare systems, and three cargo ships.

Moscow also claimed to have downed 475 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Zelenskyy revealed that air defense missile supplies have dropped threefold compared to 2025. Despite recent talks in Washington requesting 300 Patriot interceptors, the U.S. administration declined to send new missiles or permit localized production in Ukraine, prompting Zelenskyy to renew his urgent plea to foreign allies for immediate replenishment.
