17 deputy, assistant attorneys general resign together

 

17 government law officers, including seven deputy attorneys general and 10 assistant attorneys general, resigned from their posts on Tuesday, citing objections to the government’s failure to implement the July Charter and its decision regarding key judicial reforms.

The resignations were submitted to the Office of the Attorney General, with Deputy Attorney General Tarikul Islam confirming the development.

The seven deputy attorneys general who resigned are Yusuf Ali, Shafiqul Rahman, Abdul Karim, Farid Uddin Khan, Golam Rahman Bhuiyan, Asad Uddin and Tarikul Islam.

The 10 assistant attorneys general are Imrul Kayes Rana, Humayun Kabir Tanim, Abdul Qayyum Bhuiyan, Abdullah hil Maruf Fahim, Joadur Rahman, Shamsil Arefin, Mahabuba Akter Roly, Nur Nabi Ujjwal, Al Reza Amir and Rezaul Islam.

Speaking at a press conference later, Deputy Attorney General Yusuf Ali said they resigned in protest against the government’s failure to implement the July Charter and the cancellation of the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance and the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance.
