Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has urged the children and elderly persons to refrain from going out of home without urgent need due to the intense heat wave that sweeping in the country.
He said they have issued specific guidelines during this heat wave, which will be disseminated by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) everywhere.

He urged the elderly and children to minimize outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary.

He told this after inaugurating the nursing college building of Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP) in Savar on Saturday afternoon.

Responding to a question, the minister said that action will be taken after investigating the incident of fire at Shishu Hospital in the capital.

The government has decided to keep all primary, secondary schools, colleges and madrassas closed from April 21 to April 27 due to the ongoing heat wave sweeping over the country.

Meanwhile, the highest temperature of the country this year was recorded in Chuadanga at 41.3°C on Friday.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a 72-hour nationwide heat alert starting from Friday saying the ongoing heat wave is expected to continue in most parts of the country.

Discomfort might increase due to high humidity during this period, said a BMD warning signed by Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik.
