A total of 529 megawatts (MW) of load shedding was recorded across Bangladesh during the evening peak hour at 7:30pm on Wednesday.

According to data from Power Grid Bangladesh PLC (PGCB), the country’s total electricity demand at the time stood at 16,211MW. Although a significant portion of the demand was met, power shortages forced authorities to impose load shedding in several regions.

Among the zones, Mymensingh experienced the highest power shortage. Against a demand of 1,421MW, the zone recorded 256MW of load shedding.

Dhaka, which had the highest electricity demand, recorded 154MW of load shedding against a demand of 6,184MW.

Meanwhile, Cumilla recorded 50MW of load shedding against a demand of 1,455MW, Khulna recorded 49MW against a demand of 1,924MW, and Rajshahi recorded 20MW against a demand of 1,533MW.

However, the power situation remained relatively comfortable in Chattogram, Sylhet, Barishal and Rangpur during the peak hour.

Chattogram had a demand of 1,512MW, Sylhet 668MW, Barishal 481MW and Rangpur 1,033MW, with none of these zones experiencing any load shedding at the time.
