Indian National Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi has called for the removal of the Narendra Modi-led government, saying the time has come to “oust” a government that has allegedly suppressed the rights of farmers, workers, the poor and other marginalised sections of society.

Rahul made the remarks after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post following student protests. On Saturday (July 25), Rahul met a group of protesting students at his residence, 10 Janpath, and later praised their movement in a post on social media platform X.

Congratulating students across India, Rahul said young people had taken to the streets to defend democracy, the Constitution and their future. He described Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as a major step towards rebuilding the country’s education system.

Rahul also criticised the government’s alleged actions against protesting students and urged them to continue fighting through constitutional means without fear.

However, he said the students’ movement had not ended yet, as two major demands remained unfulfilled. He demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly apologise to students and the country, and called for strict action against those responsible for alleged violent attacks on protesters.

Expressing solidarity with farmers, workers, the poor and others who, he claimed, have faced injustice under the current government, Rahul said true courage lies in standing firm for one’s dignity through democratic and constitutional methods.

“The time has come to remove this corrupt government,” Rahul said, urging people to unite and raise their voices.
